An Accidental Discovery

Sometimes the best things in life happen by accident. A perfect example of this is when Scott Bullard learned about Express Employment Professionals in a random conversation. Although Bullard had owned his own businesses before, he was ready to find a small business to purchase. During one conversation, Express was casually mentioned and it caught Bullard’s attention. He hadn’t considered franchising before, but through research felt it was an ideal solution to what he was looking for, specifically Express.

“The economics of the Express business model made sense,” said Bullard. “You also have to be passionate about what you are doing—and Express is. But so am I. I really love helping people.”

If Bullard had concerns about joining the Express family, they were put to rest when he visited Express International Headquarters in Oklahoma City for Discovery Day.

“I left with an overwhelmingly positive impression of the people there,” said Bullard. “You can really see how passionate they are for what they are doing and the love they have for Express. It shows in their enthusiasm too, in the longevity. It seemed like everyone had been there for years.”

Express used the same passion and excitement Bullard witnessed at Discovery Day to award him the Fairfield, CT, location. Starting a business from scratch has its challenges. But as a resale, Bullard has been able to take advantage of some work that has already been done.

“Scott is an experienced business owner and has a strong business acumen,” said Bill Thompson, Senior Franchise Executive. “Although he is younger, he brings a lot of experience with his youth. He has an overwhelming amount of energy, drive, and determination, which will be beneficial.”

“My office already had a really strong reputation,” said Bullard. “I’m focused on improving the processes and building trust among my team because our associates and clients will notice that trust.”

Like all new Franchisees, Bullard opened his Express office with goals in mind, including maintaining the positive reputation long-term while also continuing to build the business.

“At the end of the day, it is all about relationships,” said Bullard. “We have to make sure we understand both our clients and associates as best as possible in order to serve them.”
