With more than 20 years of experience at a local workforce provider, when Jorge Costas felt ready to jump into business ownership he scoured Entrepreneur.com for opportunities. With his multitude of employment experience, transitioning into an Express Employment Professionals franchisee made perfect sense for Costas.
“Being a small business owner is tough,” said Costas. “I didn’t want to have to start from scratch but rather get into a proven system for a higher success rate, like Express. Express also allows me to continue to serve people. For 22 years in the nonprofit world, I’ve been putting people to work.”
Once Costas decided Express was the business for him, he learned the Miami-Dade (South), FL, location was available through resale. Soon, he found himself in Oklahoma City attending Discovery Day.
“I really enjoyed Discovery Day,” said Costas. “I was impressed with the operations and support Franchisees receive from headquarters, as well as their success. Even more impressive was how the founders are still present and active in the business.”
Costas left Discovery Day believing Express was a great opportunity that made sense for him. As he traveled to the airport to return to Miami, he learned he was being awarded the Miami-Dade (South) location and was ready to hit the ground running.
While Costas admits there can be challenges in any venture into business ownership, he believes his previous experience, along with the Express system, sets him up for success.
“I understand the challenge businesses have of hiring the right talent,” said Costas. “I also know where to find people and how to assess them to make sure I’m able to deliver. Although I know these things, the Express system provides a lot of value through its tools and training. It has been in place for so long, you know it has to work.”
As Costas builds his business with first-hand experience of putting people to work, he is already focused on achieving the goals he has set.
“I really want to make an impact and carve out my niche in the South Dade community,” said Costas. “I want to put 1,000 people in jobs in year two and as soon as I hit Circle, I’m going after Gold and then Platinum.”
Circle of Excellence is an Express program all Franchisees strive for. It honors Franchisees who reach goals based on performance, participation, compliance criteria, and gross margin dollar amount.
“I really love serving people, both associates and clients,” said Costas. “Being a business owner is rewarding.”
