The newest franchisee to join the Express Employment Professionals family proves you don’t necessarily need a strong sales background to become a candidate for business ownership—you just need passion and motivation.
A veteran of the broadcasting industry, Mike Zmuda is ready to bring his skills and determination to the new Garden City, NY Express office.
When he was just a sophomore in high school, Mike began volunteering in the television industry. After nurturing an early love for broadcasting, he eventually landed a job at the company where he’d volunteered. At the same time, Mike began attending the New York Institute of Technology, where he earned his bachelor of computer science degree. In pursuit of continuing education, Mike later went on to receive his MBA.
Unique Career Path
A classic example of how determination can foster career success, Mike rose through the ranks of his company. From volunteer to employee, he soon began working on local television shows and public access channels. Eventually, he became responsible for the broadcasts of Emmy award-winning shows, including “Mad Men,” “Breaking Bad,” and “The Walking Dead.”
Longevity is important to Mike, who has worked for the same company for 24 years. According to Brook Wise, Director of Franchising at Express, Mike’s key personality traits make him an excellent candidate for business ownership.
“He is determined to be successful,” Wise said. “Mike has a strong competitive nature and values integrity in everything he does.”
In addition to running his own consulting and computer technology business, Mike also volunteers his time to help the Village of Floral Park in New York create, run, and maintain their own television studio. In his volunteer role, he consulted with the Village, trained the staff, and helped produce shows.
It’s this devotion to helping others and making a difference that best aligns him with the values of Express.
“Mike is very personable, easy to work with, and tenacious,” Wise said. “He is empowered by the opportunity to help people find work. And he’s motivated by making a positive impact in other people’s lives.”
