Many people encounter a moment in their career when they come to a crossroads. Do they continue the career path they are already on or do they go after something new? For Christine Martin, she chose to go after something new.
“I was looking for a second career and have always had a real desire to own my own business,” Martin said. “I didn’t have an idea for my own business and thought franchising would be a great opportunity to join a proven system.”
With the decision made to start a second career and own her own business, Martin reached out to a franchise broker to learn about opportunities. As they discussed top franchise opportunities in Canada, she made an appointment to speak with Express Employment Professionals.
“From everything I learned in several phone calls, I was very impressed with the Express model and their reputation,” Martin said. “They were very open and transparent about what Express is as a business.”
As conversations continued, Martin visited Express International Headquarters in Oklahoma City for Discovery Day.
“It was a fantastic experience and they reinforced my thoughts and what I had already learned on the phone,” Martin said. “I really liked the culture I witnessed. There was lots of collaboration and everyone seemed to really know their stuff. As we toured the support center, I was really impressed by how people are trained. It gave me the confidence in the support I’d receive as a Franchisee.”
Going into Discovery Day, Martin had her thoughts set on a resale opportunity with Express but by the time she left, she was considering the opportunity of a new territory just because she wanted to be part of Express. Ultimately, she was awarded a resale in Calgary, AB, Canada.
Although her location is already up and running, there was plenty of training for Martin to complete as she left the oil and gas industry for the staffing industry.
“The quality of the content during training and how it was delivered was fantastic,” Martin said. “There was a lot of information jammed into the two weeks but I came away feeling like I knew a little bit about a lot of things.”
Martin is confident she can draw upon her past experience to be successful as an Express Franchisee as well.
“In my past career, I really focused on building relationships with vendors and business leaders,” she said. “Great relationship building was a key focus of what I did. I also did a lot of work with teams that weren’t performing well and transformed them into more high performing teams.”
As impressed as Martin has been with Express through the process, Express has been just as impressed with her.
“Christine loves the Express model and has been excited throughout the entire process,” Vinny Provenzano, Franchise Executive at Express, said. “With a heart for her community and helping people, she loves the foundational principals of Express.”
In her own words, Martin echoed what Provenzano had to say.
“For me, it is just that I love working with people, and one reason I chose Express is because I was looking for a way to contribute to my community,” Martin said. “What excited me about Express is the way we (Express) help people in our community to find jobs and build relationships with other business owners to help them succeed.”
