Shane Somerville (Glendale, CA South – New)When an opportunity is presented, you just need to grab it and run. Shane Somerville did just that and will now open the doors to his very own Express Employment Professionals office in Glendale, CA.

Previously located in Indiana, Shane had been itching for a new adventure and ultimately decided to relocate to California to be closer to friends and family. Working as the commercial division team lead for the Fishers, IN, Express office, Shane gave his notice to Franchisee Shannon and Lee Wenninger. Shane wasn’t quite sure what his plans would be after relocating, but then Elaine Brink, Executive Vice President of Zone Sales, visited the Fishers, IN, office the day after he gave notice.

In a brief conversation with Elaine, the idea of franchise ownership came up. A seed was planted in Shane’s head so he spoke with the Wenningers about ownership and ultimately emailed Elaine to inquire more. Soon, Shane found himself on the path of Express’ “Bridge to Ownership” program. This program is designed to offer qualified staffing industry employees an opportunity to become Express Franchisees.

“I’ve always wanted to own a business but I just wasn’t sure which way to go,” said Shane. “Bridge to Ownership is a great opportunity to go after your dreams. It gives people an opportunity they might not have had otherwise.”

With three years at the Fishers, IN, office, Shane believes his experience gives him not only a different perspective, but will also help him succeed.

“There is no negative to what we do,” said Shane. “We give people hope and inspiration to be better. I remember one of the first people I helped in Fishers was a young mom who had no high school diploma but she was determined. The first job I placed her in was wearing a Statue of Liberty costume outside during winter promoting a business. She always showed up and worked hard. From there she went to a warehouse position. Her determination and work ethic impressed our client to the point she was offered a full-time job as long as she earned her G.E.D. She has not only earned that, but has also earned an associate’s degree. She is now the right hand to the operations lead at the client.”

Having experienced Express events for Franchisees and their staff, Shane is already determined his office will be successful. Shane’s immediate goal is to find people who see what Express does as meaningful, not just a job. To Shane, someone needs to be passionate and genuine about what they are selling or they won’t be successful.

Shane’s experience has shown him that Express is truly about people instead of the end dollar.

“It’s pretty cool to impact the community you live in,” said Shane. “It’s important to have a servant’s heart and make sure you do things the right way the every time.”

Shane is also excited to work closer with co-founders Bob Funk and Bill Stoller as he embarks on owning his own office.

“It is exciting and refreshing to have that leadership,” said Shane. “I’ve never experienced anything like being able to shake the hands of a company’s co-founders so many times. Bob is very real. It was so cool to see him taking selfies with our staff when the Express Clydesdales were at the Fishers office.”
