Some of the best opportunities can come from networking. And if it weren’t for networking, Yousuf Khaja might not be an Express Employment Professionals owner.
After moving to Mississauga, ON, 10 years ago, Yousuf and his, wife Asra, focused on becoming involved in their new community and looking toward their future.
“I was searching for ways to settle down here in Canada,” Yousuf said. “I wanted to find a way to use my background in business and the corporate world, as well as my international experience.
The experience Yousuf brings to the table is quite impressive. For more than three decades, Yousuf worked in the automotive industry leading sales and marketing in the United Arab Emirates. He also served as a general manager of an automotive distributor in Saudi Arabia before relocating to Canada as a business consultant for another automotive distributor.
Yousuf shared what he was looking for in his next professional venture with a friend. As they discussed opportunities, Yousuf’s friend mentioned he knew someone interested in selling their business. That business was Express.
“I looked into Express based on the recommendation of my friend,” Yousuf said. “Express intrigued me because it would enable me to become independent and provide a good living for my family.”
With his interest piqued, Yousuf made plans to attend Discovery Day at Express International Headquarters in Oklahoma City.
“It was a good experience,” he said. “I was impressed by the family feel of the business. Overall, Discovery Day gave me a sense of security that I was headed in the right direction. I left Oklahoma City with a strong understanding that Headquarters has a role and stake in our success. I’ll be swimming along with somebody who could work with us and see us through this process.”
Since the Mississauga, ON, Express office was a resale, a significant number of tasks, such as finding a location, were already taken care of and Khaja quickly returned to Oklahoma City for training.
“The Express process has been proven over the years with the success of Franchisees,” Yousuf said. “It helps you focus on the essentials rather than on something that does not add any value to what you do.”
While the automotive and staffing industries may seem nothing alike, Yousuf’s past experiences will be helpful in his journey as an Express Franchisee. Yousuf shared how his past professional experience has helped him develop a good understanding and positive perspective working with people of diverse backgrounds, which will be a strong asset in staffing.
Yousuf may be new to staffing and Express but his goals already show he has the Express spirit.
“For our associates, I want to work diligently to place them with respectable and professional companies in line with their dreams, desires, and skills,” Yousuf said. “I want to provide our clients professional staffing solutions that allow them to focus on delivering results to their stakeholders.”
